KATS are returning to the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny with Roddy Doyle’s ‘War’ with their second full-scale production of 2016, staging from 21 September.
What’s seldom is wonderful.
Right now, the theatre scene in Kilkenny – particluarly for local companies operating at every level – is booming. Audience numbers are up, there’s a renewed hunger and support for original theatre or at the very least, works from this parish and adding to that for the second time this year are KATS Theatre Group.
On Friday 27 August, the group launched Roddy Doyle’s War upstairs at Brewery Corner (which has just been named the Sky Craft Beer Bar Of The Year for 2016), their second full scale production for this calendar year.
Last seen in March for Sean O’Casey’s Shadow Of A Gunman, the group are returning to the Watergate Theatre in September where they’ve enjoyed success in recent years with One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and 2015’s The Elephant Man.
At the launch, I caught up KATS Chairman for 2016, Ciarán Dunphy along with one of my Devious Theatre stable mates, Kevin Mooney, who’s booked in to direct the show this September. Take a listen below.
