David and Stephen Flynn’s The World Of The Happy Pear has picked up the Avonmore Cookbook of the Year award at this year’s Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards.

From Grilled Halloumi Burger with Sweet Chilli Ketchup and a Garlic Tahini Mayo to a Fennel, Ruby Grapefruit, Avocado and Blueberry Salad, the lads book is jam packed full of vegetarian recipes along with advice on getting the younger ones to “love the stuff that’s good for them” while looking at everything from BBQs to burgers, ice cream and pavlovas (for the dessert lovers)

The World of The Happy Pear is the follow up to last October’s Happy Pear release.

They pipped Roz Purcell, Neven Maguire, Garrett Fitzgerald (Brother Hubbard), Sophie White (Recipes for a Nervous Breakdown) and Indy Power (The Little Green Spoon), to the top gong.

Other winners on the night include The Tresspasser by Tana French (Crime Fiction Book of The Year), Dave Rudden’s Knights of the Borrowed Dark (Children’s Book of the Year) and Sinead Gleeson’s The Glass Shore (Best Irish Published Book of the Year).
